Ramsing Antarashti Akhara

Ramsing Antarashti Akhara in Varanasi has an entrance decorated with symbolic painted bells hanging on chains.

Hanuman the God of Strength

This is to remind everyone who enters that the Akhara that it is dedicated to Hanuman the God of Strength who is always present. Hanuman maybe catching a nap, so the bell has to be rung to make him aware of your presence.

Rope Climbing

Ramsing Antarashti Akhara has a large open beaten earth training area, with conveniently placed trees that are set up for rope climbing.  The rope climbing is performed using hands-only (no legs), as the climber ascends the rope, another stands holding the end of the rope away, avoiding temptation.

Traditional bamboo and stone gada and other equipment included parallel bars, free weights, dumbbells.  The centre area houses a covered wrestling pit and water well.

Traditional Bamboo and Stone Gada

This was the very first time that I had the opportunity to experience swinging a traditional Gada. It was a personal life-changing experience never to be forgotten. A great memory.

Inside the Akhara, you can see the open brick structure providing shade over the mud wrestling pit.
